Half a poem

Half of a poem
ran ragged through my head,
“I’m tired, lights out”
was what I almost said.
But I knew that by morning
those words would all have flown;
and I’d be left unknowing
what it was I’d known.
So I turned on the light
grabbed up paper and pen,
and half a ragged poem
was found dressed agen.
