Through a Book

What power has the author
With his paper and his pen,
To bring to life within our minds
The worlds and ways of men.
With a rapid stroke of pen
Or a neat-turned phrase,
He sets his characters awry
In a dozen different ways.
But he will not leave them there
In their toil and woe;
For where his pen ascribes
That’s where they must go!
So WE follow in the tales
Written –and yet to be-
Sorrowing in their sorrow,
And laughing in their glee.
Then with a sigh we lay aside
The page that says, “The End”,
And bit our favourite character farewell
To feel we’ve lost a friend.
