Isn’t life a mixture of contradictory events?
I had a family wedding on Monday, then a funeral of a friend on Tuesday.
Perhaps though, they are not as contradictory as they seem at first thought.
The wedding was of two people setting off on a journey together to create and share happiness.
The funeral was of my friend setting off on a journey too. He also was seeking happiness; the happiness he had spent his life aiming toward.
Our journeys take us in so many different directions throughout this life!
The things one person pursues in the search for happiness can be totally opposite to what another believes will bring that elusive quality into their lives.
What, then IS happiness?
Is it found in possessions? In power? In wealth? In fame?
Or is it found in sharing? In helping? In quiet content with ones’ situation?
In the love of family?
What does YOUR happiness come from?
Where is YOUR journey taking you?
I like the traditional Gaelic Blessing poem
“May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
